

David Seidel
Double Bass
David Seidel has worked as a musician since graduating BEd Music in 1975. Taught music in High School in SA for 4 years, then lectured in jazz and Music Ed at SACAE (now University of Adelaide). As music professional he played guitar, electric bass and double bass on numerous recordings, tours and performances including collaborations with the ABC, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Del Shannon, Rod McKuen, Cilla Black, Ricky May, Barry Humphries to name a few. Backed international jazz artists including Buddy Tate, Al Cohn, Urbie Green, Mickey Tucker, Mundell Lowe and Lee Konitz. Since moving to Sydney in 1987 has worked with top Australian jazz artists including Col Nolan, Tom Baker, Bob Barnard, George Washingmachine, Bob Gebert, Bob Henderson, Peter Locke etc
He has toured Internationally with Bob Barnard, Tom Baker, Janet Seidel, Chuck Morgan and performed at Jazz Festivals such as North Sea, Fujitsu Jazz Elite, Breda, Isle of Wight, Wangaratta, Melbourne etc
Also toured the Middle East, India, SE Asia, UK Europe and Japan. Has played bass and / or produced, many successful jazz albums for Australian and international release including: Col Nolan, Tom Baker, Bob Barnard, Janet Seidel, David McLeod, Joe Lane, Monica Trapaga, David McLeod, Ben Jones.
From the early 2000s the Janet Seidel Trio (with Chuck Morgan) became the main focus, regularly touring and recording in Australia and overseas. Since the untimely passing of both Janet and Chuck Morgan, (2017-2018), David is mostly working freelance around Sydney, and further afield, fortunate to play regularly with some of Australia’s top class musicians.
