Sunday, April 12 @ 2:00PM — 4:30PMSun, Apr 12 @ 2:00PM — 4:30PM

Bowral Golf Club, Kangaloon Rd & David St, Bowral

Sunday Sessions Jazz at The Hastings - Bowral Golf Club on Sunday 12 April features the Peter Locke Trio with special guest and long-time audience favourite Marilyn Mendez.

Marilyn’s smoky-smooth and versatile vocal style is “reminiscent of a night club piano lounge” (Down South Jazz Club Review).

The Peter Locke Trio was formed with the sound of Nat "King" Cole's trio in mind, with Peter on piano, and David Seidel on double bass and Brendon O'Reilly on guitar.

"We don't necessarily 'copy' Nat Cole as such but more attain that ambience in the sound of a tight, swinging trio. Remember of course that Cole's trio was the inspiration for Oscar Peterson's first trio - that is piano/guitar/bass. Everyone wanted to sound like Nat, even Ray Charles early on, was singing and playing like Nat Cole," says Peter Locke. "We do a few of the Cole arrangements but mainly we want to carry this trio forward with that 'sound' and just play hot swinging jazz."

Sunday Sessions Jazz: Leigh Barker Band

Sunday, November 9, 2025 @ 2:00PM — 4:30PMSun, Nov 9, 2025 @ 2:00PM — 4:30PM

Bowral Bowling Club, 40 Shepherd St, Bowral

Virtuoso string bassist, bandleader, composer and arranger Leigh Barker and his band will be in Bowral on Sunday, 9 November as part of their Australian tour.

Leigh moved to Paris from Australia in 2016 to bring a new international perspective to his many musical projects. In the years before his departure, Barker was already sustaining a busy international schedule including such highlights as the Sydney Opera House, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Festival in Iowa and The New York Lindy Exchange as well as global tours with the Tom Vincent Trio and the Hot Jazz Alliance.

As a sideman he has accompanied artists as diverse as Branford Marsalis, Gordon Webster, Sarah McKenzie, Andy Schumm and Dan Levinson, and in France and Europe since 2016 with many the greats of traditional and mainstream jazz, including Christophe Davot, Chris Hopkins, Olivier Franc and Duved Dunayevsky.

Leigh is touring with his regular Australian line up featuring Heather Stewart (vocals and violin), Eamon McNelis (trumpet), Max Teakle (piano), Abby Constable (drums), and a special guest on trombone!

Ambitiously as a bandleader Leigh has maintained a regular line up in both France AND Australia, which allowed him to spend two days in the studio with the Melbourne based musicians in late 2022. This produced the new full-length album “CROSS STREET” available in all mediums from May 2025, (including for the very first time on vinyl!)

These sessions reunited Leigh with all his regular bandmates, allowing the group to develop even further Leigh's vision of an inclusive and diverse music, where one finds the all the critical elements of blues, swing, hot jazz and classic themes, at the heart of an exuberant, spontaneous and virtuosic orchestra. On the new album and now in 2025 live on tour in Australia, vocalist and violinist Heather Stewart anchors these musical comrades with her moving and swinging voice, while the orchestra traverses a rich palette of rhythm melody and improvisation.

A concert not to be missed!

SH! Jazz presents Lyhra

SH! Jazz presents Lyhra

Sunday, September 14, 2025 @ 2:00PM — 4:30PMSun, Sep 14, 2025 @ 2:00PM — 4:30PM

Bowral Bowling Club, 40 Shepherd St, Bowral

"When you have three of the sweetest voices around who are also wonderful songwriters, you can't go wrong... Now that’s how music should sound!" — Dan Barnett, Eastside Radio 89.7

"Lyhra was just stunning!" — Jenny Ferguson, Katandra 2023

Lyhra is the captivating alchemy of three celebrated singers, songwriters, and performers — Trish Delaney-Brown, Sam Walton, and Bri Cowlishaw — blending their voices and creativity into a sound that is both timeless and unmistakably their own. Accompanied by their swinging band — Nic Cecire (drums), Duncan Brown (bass) and Sam Rollings (guitar) — Lyhra draws from a rich stylistic palette: the soul of Aretha Franklin, the close harmonies of The Chordettes, the charm of The Andrews Sisters, the swing of Mel Tormé, and the poetic storytelling of Joni Mitchell — all meeting in a joyous, contemporary groove.

Formed in 2022, Lyhra has quickly built a reputation for magnetic live performances, with appearances at Lazybones Lounge, Django Bar, Bennelong @ the Opera House, and Butchers Brew. They’ve featured at the South Coast Sings Twilight Concert (2023) and Wollongong Council’s Luminous Festival (2022–24), selling out multiple shows along the way.

In 2025, Lyhra celebrated the release of their first live album, Live at Church Street, captured in the intimacy and energy of the studio’s legendary performance space. The album launch in Canberra was a sell-out success, drawing a standing ovation and cementing Lyhra’s reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting vocal ensembles.

Whether delivering lush, intricate harmonies or high-energy arrangements, Lyhra’s performances are marked by vocal precision, joyful connection, and a rare chemistry that draws audiences in from the very first note.

"...vocal precision, balance, energy and clarity. Their sound is truly beautiful and captivating to listen to. In fact, it’s more than listening... you’re drawn into and feel ‘inside’ their musical performance." — Antoinette Raynal, Music Director, Katandra Women’s A Cappella

Inseparable from a life with music, Nana continues to celebrate her joy of music all around the world!

Bowral Bowling Club, 40 Shepherd St, Bowral

SH Jazz fans are in for a double treat on Sunday the 9th of March at Bowral Bowling Club when Australia’s number one swing band is joined by the one and only Kate Wadey.

Drummer Andrew Dickeson's "Blue Rhythm Band" is beyond a doubt Australia’s most popular swing band. Featuring Brad Child on sax, Peter Locke on piano and Jacob Graham on bass - this is as good as it gets!

Drawing upon the wonderful tradition of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Jimmy Lunceford and others - this band is the “real deal” for swing music.

Vocalist Kate Wadey masterfully presents classic jazz repertoire with an other-worldly charm and warmth that belies her youth. She will take you on a musical journey that is playful yet sophisticated - exploring the power of storytelling through song.

Don’t miss out on this one-off celebration of swinging jazz at its very best!
